Lock It or Lose It!
Posted on Dec 17th, 2012

Although Applewood Estates had very little crime in 2012 the HOA wanted to give you some information from the City of Richland.

Vehicle Theft Statistics
The Richland Police Department has seen an increase in vehicle prowls (thefts from vehicles) this past year:
  • Of the 2011 incidents, 71% of the vehicles were unlocked
Many vehicle prowls are crimes of opportunity. For most thieves an unlocked door, or a valuable left in plain view, is just too much to resist. You might as well put a sign on the roof of your car inviting thieves to steal your property.

Precautions
Citizens are encouraged to:
  • Lock your vehicle every time you leave it.
  • Document the make, model and serial number of your valuables and keep in a safe location.
  • Park your vehicle in your garage or in a well-lit area.
  • Take your valuables with you or secure them in the trunk.
Report suspicious activity or vehicle prowls by calling the Richland Police Department at (509) 628-0333. In an emergency dial 9-1-1.
