Area Construction Updates - Shockley to Close
Posted on Aug 8th, 2011

The city and contractors continue to make progress on the Keene Road Project. Since there is a lot of work going on around Applewood Estates so we wanted to update you on them.

Keene Road (Kenney Road to Queensgate Drive) - The bridge is open and the contractor is continuing to grade the roadway and pour concrete curbing and sidewalks. The Keene Road Bridge over I-182 is open. The entrance areas into Queensgate Village and the Keene Fitness/MacDonald Health/New City Cleaner complex were excavated and filled in with gravel. Starting Monday, August 15, these two entrances will be closed while crews pour concrete and allow the concrete to cure, which takes about 5 to 7 days. There will be access to these business areas through the entrance near Sherwin-Williams and from Queensgate Boulevard. Once the City opens these driveways, the entrance near Sherwin-Williams will go through the same process of demolition and rebuild with a cure time of 5 to 7 days. The businesses will continue to remain open and accessible.

Keene Road (Queensgate Drive to Elementary Street) - The contractor will continue utility and grading work between Queensgate Drive and Shockley Road. They will be repaving the street while widening Keene Road in order to create a left turn lane into Badger Mountain Park. I am not 100% sure but Cherrywood should have a turn lane too. Street lights will also be going in. They will also be adding aesthetic enhancements to include professional landscaping on the north side of Keene Road. Yes, we wished it was for the south side but not at this time.

Shockley Road - The current schedule still has the Shockley rebuild closure occurring the week of August 22. This will close Shockley for 2 weeks, with a short-term nighttime closure until the sub grade is built. There will be detours in place during the closure and detour routes will be circulated as soon as they are finalized.

Westcliffe Boulevard - Work will also begin at Brantingham Road and Westcliffe Boulevard. They will extend Westcliffe Boulevard to Keene Road and construct a traffic signal at the new intersection to provide improved access to Keene Road. This will eliminate the Keene Road and Brantingham Road intersection.

We understand that no one enjoys construction and we will try and keep you all updated on the Keene Road Project.
