Project Will Close Keene Rd Bridge Over I-182
Posted on Jun 1st, 2011
Beginning at 6 am on Thursday, June 9 the City of Richland’s contractor will close the Keene Road bridge over Interstate-182. This complete closure will last two months; traffic will be detoured around the work area onto Duportail Street and Queensgate Drive. (See Map Here)
The city and Washington State Department of Transportation will coordinate the timing of traffic signals along the detour route to help keep traffic flowing during the closure. The city will closely monitor the detour route and make adjustments as necessary. The city encourages motorists to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to use alternate routes if possible.
During this two-month closure, the contractor will replace approximately 2,500 feet of water line, install fire hydrants, air release valves and water services, pour 4,000 feet of curb and 1,120 square yards of sidewalk, grade and pave 6,000 square yards of roadway, replace the concrete bridge approach slabs and add hand railing and raised sidewalk along the existing bridge.
Conversion of the Keene Road bridge is part of Richland’s Keene Road improvement projects that include widening the roadway to provide two lanes in each direction, a two-way left turn lane, curb, gutter and sidewalk on the south side and a multi-use pathway on the north side. The improvements will also include an overlay of Keene Road from Queensgate to Elementary and addition of a traffic signal at Keene and Westcliffe. The entire improvement project will be completed by the end of the year.
Please direct any questions about this project to the city’s project engineer, Julie Nelson, at 942-7461.
