Project Time!
Posted on Mar 17th, 2022

Good Morning Homeowners and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Now that the weather is improving, we all start thinking about projects we would like to complete before summer, like building that beautiful deck, painting the home, or building a shed to store all those Christmas items purchased last year.

If you are going to start a project, here is some basic information.

What Projects Need ACC Approval? ????
The CC&Rs say that any property owner seeking to add to or modify any portion of the exterior of an existing home or structure needs to submit plans to the ACC for review. This means just about any change to the exterior of your home needs approval.

The HOA encourages homeowners to get approval for any project so they are protected. The Architectural Control Committee (ACC) has a policy not to peek into back yards, but if your neighbor complains about a project and you don't have approval, you are at risk of losing a BIG investment.

Even Applewood HOA has to fill out a project approval for additions and improvements. One project was our south Westcliffe block wall and you can see photos of the construction on our website by clicking "Photo Albums" and scrolling down to "South Block Wall Project".

Who Approves Projects and How Do I Get Approval?
The Architectural Control Committee consists of five volunteer homeowners who oversee project requests and CC&R compliance. They check the community weekly for violations and enforce them in a consistent and fair manner. They also approve project requests with a very quick turnaround time. To initiate the process, you will need to fill out a Project Request/Approval Form. This form will ask you for all the pertinent details of your request, including but not limited to:

=> Alteration or addition type
=> Location and details of the project
=> Color of paint or finish you will use
=> Sample designs or plans of the work
=> Contractor details, work schedule, and the timeline for completion

You have three options to submit your project request:

1. You may drop it off at 1369 Scarlet Place - there is a small HOA mailbox to the right of the door and above the doorbell or to 1352 Gala Way. Please call Tony or Carolyn to let them know you are bringing an application in case one or both of them are out of town for a few days.

2. You May submit it by email. Send to: applewood_hoa@hotmail.com.

3. You may mail it to the address below:
Applewood Estates Homeowners Association
c/o ACC Committee
PO Box 2015
Richland, WA 99352

Option #1 is best to use if you need a quick turnaround to allow time for routing, reviewing, and approval.

If you would like to volunteer and be a part of the ACC, or have any questions or concerns about a project, feel free to reach out by calling or texting the ACC Chairperson Carolyn Krogness at (509) 460-1598.

Always know that our most important project is yours!
