Inclement Weather/Snow Information
Posted on Feb 11th, 2019
What a winter storm this year! We first want to thank everyone for their acts of kindness. So many neighbors with snowblowers and shovels have been helping each other clear their walks and driveways. These acts of kindness mean much more to some who have health issues or who are sick. Thank you to all those helping.
We have received several emails regarding the streets and city services so we wanted to address those as well. When a storm hits this bad, there are just some sidewalks that may not be cleared. If you do need help or it is an emergency your driveway needs to be cleared, please let the HOA know and we can try and get someone there to help.
Snow Removal – Sidewalks
You may go to the City's website and under the City Public Works Traffic and Streets Department, you can find a lot of good information to include the priority of streets to be cleared by the City, snow removal map, and how you can help. A couple years ago, the HOA spent a lot of money clearing the sidewalks along Westcliffe Blvd, Keene Rd, and Shockley Rd only to have it covered by the City snow plows, so we will not be clearing those sidewalks. The by-laws are clear regarding the HOA spending money on other homeowner’s property so money can not be spent clearing interior sidewalks unless this is changed at an annual meeting.
Snow Removal – Streets
Fuji Way is considered a Priority 3 street so we hope to see it cleared too soon. Drivers that use Fuji Way should be using the Westcliffe Blvd (Priority 2 – Collector Street) to get to Keene Rd (Priority 1 – Main Arterial Street) to travel. The HOA is not allowed to hire snow removal for City streets. Plus, the liability is just too high in the event of issues regarding line-of-sight for traffic and property damage and should be left to the City. If Applewood streets were private, that would be a different story. We are dependent on the City plows and equipment. During the last storm, the City had to eventually hire a private company to clear some of our streets. We will just need to be as patient as possible until they can get to Applewood.
Garbage Day – Cancelled
The City has notified the HOA that all Richland facilities will open two hours late, at 10:00 am on Monday, February 11the. The Richland Community Center remains closed and all recreation activities have been cancelled. In addition, all residential and commercial garbage collection has been cancelled. More information will be shared once an alternate schedule has been confirmed. You can get these updates on their website and Facebook page.
Thank you for your continued patience! We will all get through this and the snow will melt. We did hear from all those planted tulips and they are very happy for the snow and extra winter water this year.
