Landscape Master Plan – Update
Having 142,000 square feet of land to maintain and improve is no small task. However, after learning that the land is owned by the HOA and available for master planning creates an opportunity of such vast potential it’s almost hard to comprehend. Applewood homeowners took the first and most critical step in a landscape project when they authorized the board to evaluate the potential for a Keene Road Improvement Initiative with a cost limit of $1,525.
This project pertains only to the land that runs parallel along Keene Road between the HOA block wall and the sidewalk. The board never had to use that money but did create a master plan that includes the history, land survey, landscape ideas and funding options. It is clear that the City of Richland’s goal is to improve the Keene Road Trail Corridor which leads us to believe this isn’t just an Applewood Estates project. The board is to be applauded for that vision in continuing to look for different partners in the project.
It may take time for the full potential of this project to be realized. But if we are to maximize this incredible opportunity, we need enthusiasm — and patience. We need commitments of elected officials and all Applewood Estates homeowners to continue to be collaborative and visionary. We also need the City to stay true to their long-term vision of South Richland. With proximity to a new elementary school, walking path and thriving retail businesses, this parcel of land cries out for something special to be done with it. The board will present the plan at the annual meeting and homeowner input is critical.
The land to be developed belongs to Applewood Estates and its board members are wisely trying to include other partners in a joint effort to landscape it. The board is in a “final intensive effort” to finish the master plan and encourage all homeowners to take a look and give your input before the annual meeting. We would like to thank you in advance for your interest. You can access the master plan by clicking HERE.
