HOA Crime Update
Posted on Jun 9th, 2014
Our Richland Police Department wanted the HOA to pass on a few things to our homeowners so I thought this would be a good time to talk about security and safety for the summer months. Applewood Estates continues to have very low crime rate numbers and that is a direct result on our efforts! We do a good job of keeping cars off the street and locked while in our driveways. The HOA constantly monitors the street lights and reports if one goes out. Criminals love the dark and will always stay away from light so make sure your house is well lit or set with motion lights. Below are the 3 big highlights to pass on.
Garage Doors
As the weather warms up in the summer, we will see more criminals out at night. Unfortunately, our garages also get warm and we have a tendency to keep our garage doors open longer in the evening or keep them open 6 inches or more. Most of our thefts and burglaries in Applewood have come from open garage doors or fence gates. Lets all try and keep our vehicles and homes secure.
Crime Mapping
The Richland Police Department has a crime mapping system: www.raidsonline.com
You can sign up for alerts for the area in and around Applewood Estates. Alert criteria can be set by you and will come via an email. There is also a mobile version for your smart phone. At this time, only calls with a case report written are available to us. Regular calls for service such as verbal disturbances or police looking for a suspicious person (but did not find them) are not registered into the system yet. Take a look at the program and sign up if you like. Your HOA board continues to track crime in and around Applewood Estates.
Gang Survey
Below is a link to a survey about gangs and criminal activity that is being sent to all police agencies for FIRME Outreach. Our police department is interested in our views on Richland crime and gang activity. We do not have gangs or gang activity in Applewood Estates but we do have gangs in Richland. The short survey is voluntary but we encourage all Applewood homeowners to get involved and take it.
